Over the next few months we will be sharing with you some of the women we have met over the years, who have made us sit up and listen. They are all inspirational leaders and have motivated us to want to shout about what they do. In their own unique ways we think they all rock!
To start the series, we have Karen Stacey, CEO of Digital Cinema Media (DCM).
Karen is one of those CEO’s who makes the job look easy. She appears unflappable, has a great calming presence and manages to explain complicated ideas in a down to earth way.
What has been your greatest failure?
Once I hadn’t quite finished a contract that needed amending slightly and I thought I would get away with it … I didn’t and it was challenged 18 months later !!!
And what did you learn from it?
I knew in my heart I should have completed the task and it caught me out ! I felt physically sick for about a week – I never want to feel like that again.
Who has opened doors for you?
Many of my bosses. And I now always make sure I introduce my team to people they don’t know.
What advice would you give your 25-year-old self?
Be kind and work hard and have a go at everything!
What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken?
Leaving Channel 4 to go to Emap to help start their radio sales division. Everyone thought I was mad.
What’s the best book you’ve read/podcast you’ve listened to so far this year?
The Joy of Work by Bruce Daisley.
When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
Walk around Regents Park.
If you weren’t doing what you are doing, what would you have done?
I am not sure – I really do think I have the best job in town!
